It’s time again to choose my word for the year. It’s an attempt to choose a word that influences my state of mind throughout the year and creates a structure and framework for my life. Thanks to Ali Edwards for the idea.
Here are my past choices:
2009-SERENE
2010-CREATE
2011-BALANCE
2012-VARIETY
2013-MEMORY
2014-MEMORY
2015-EMBRACE
2016-FOCUS
This year my word, FOCUS, really influenced my life as I focused on telling stories in family history, scrapbooks, and quilts.
I got a lot of family history done, and even though I didn’t get a narrative done like I hoped, I scanned photos, added a ton of work to Family Search, and taught two sessions of a 15 week family history class at church that I designed and wrote my own curriculum.
I did a ton of scrapping this year and really got my mojo back, and remembered why I love telling stories and creating in that medium. I worked on books for the boys and for myself, as I haven’t spent time saving my own stories, and that was fun.
I finished ten quilts this year, started an additional nine, and got two older quilts basted and ready for hand-quilting when I finish the hand-applique quilt I’m working on now.
So this year was a success with my word: FOCUS. And for 2017 I have decided my word is CREATE. I want to create in an artistic way, but I also want to create spaces in my life for other things I need. I am excited about the possibilities of repeating this word from 2010.
