These are the last of the 9″x9″ blocks and then we go to even smaller! February gave us the opportunity to get some serious work done in cutting blocks and finishing them up. And to give some perspective, there are 36 “blocks” listed in the pattern, although the last three are the same 3″ blocks, making multiples. But I am ready to say we are halfway done with the quilt top, excluding the borders. Whoopee!
We laid out the adjoining blocks to the Double T in order to check on our color scheme. In looking at what we have already finished, we adjusted the pattern colors of pink, black, red, and teal to navy, red, medium blue, and green. This will pull in the surrounding colors and our fabric choices really make each “T” stand out. And of course, there are polka dots, in this case, in the green and the background.

The last of the 9″x9″ blocks is #19 Eddystone Light and we followed the color scheme dictated by the pattern. That said, our block has a much bolder feel to the red star because our color choice of yellow is lighter and fades to the background more than the pattern. We used some of the design and contrast principles I learned at my January quilt retreat when choosing fabric and it made the block look different. We like it. We did a little fussy cutting to ensure each of our teal centers contained a red flower to tie in the red star.
