This was a summer project. Our quilt group couldn’t meet all together when one of our number left town for several weeks and the other was also on vacation. So ShaRee and I decided to make a project we had planned to do back when only the two of us were quilting together. I need a snowman quilt to hang on my landing and she had a cute pattern that we loved, so we said we would make it someday. This summer we finally did and for me, it’s a “free” quilt. All the fabric for the top and backing came from my stash except for the red & white stripe. We also purchased the buttons, but that’s it! Scott quibbles with my “free” designation because I bought the fabric sometime, but I think if I can make a big project without running to the quilt shop, that constitutes a “free” project.
The pattern is “So Many Snowmen” 2012 by Sew Cute Quilts and actually is written for a 5×5 layout but I wanted a smaller quilt to hang on my landing and ShaRee agreed, so we both made quilts with a 4×4 layout of blocks, then did uber math and some squinching to make the border come out right. There’s a little bit of optical illusion going on but you’ll never notice! It finishes at 48’x48″. Since the fabric was from my stash, I don’t know the provenance of most of it, so won’t give the designers. I had it quilted at Utah Valley Quilting using their Swirling Snowflakes design and that was an added feature that really makes it sparkle. The orange carrot noses were machine appliqued before the quilting and I sewed on all the buttons after the quilting.
So there it is and done just in time to put up with my snowman decorations in January. Finish #14 for 2017.
