I love this quilt! It’s reading & quilting combined. What could be better?
I bought the kit for this quilt at The Quiltmakers in American Fork during 2014 and it sat around for a while. Last year I got it out and started working on the blocks a little at a time in conjunction with other blocks so that I would make a little progress. Near the end of last year I really focused on finishing the top and it entered the hand-quilting queue. I got right on the quilting when we returned from Oregon in late March and since it’s a small baby quilt, the handwork didn’t take too long. It’s quilting in a natural thread with all-over loops. Saturday night I sat down with my DVD of “Hairspray” and finished it off, including the label, so it’s a done deal. Up the street for a photo shoot and here it is on the blog, ready to be crossed off my list of WIP’s for 2016. Whoopee! I’m a finisher!
The top is made from ABC Adventure in the Dr. Seuss collection by Robert Kaufman Fabrics. The letters come in a panel with all 26 letters and the two blocks in the upper left corner. In order to make a quilt of 30 blocks, the kit included 2 squares from another fabric in the collection that has the small all-over letter squares. These were cut up and sashed with Swiss Dots by Riley Blake, using the black dots on white. There was no selvage on the border pieces in my kit so I don’t know the fabric, but it’s really cute. The binding is Sketch Basic by Timeless Treasures. The backing is an all-over print from the same Dr. Seuss collection as the tope. I borrowed a photo from the website because I didn’t take one of the backing.
And that’s my Dr. Suess quilt! Happy sewing!
