Staycations are all the rage now as people are unwilling to spend a ton of money traveling and prefer to stay local and visit places close to home. Brian’s work was closed this week so we did some fun stuff while he was home. On July 2, we went to the Living Planet Aquarium. On July 3, we hiked to Upper Silver Lake in American Fork Canyon, then went farther up the canyon to Cascade Springs because I love that place. After we hiked around, Scott thought we should drive on over the mountain because we’d never done that before, so we went to Heber and had shakes at Granny’s. After dark we did our fireworks in the driveway. On July 4, we opened presents for my birthday and Scott gave me an iPod Nano and armband to replace my old classic shuffle. We hung around the house, Scott BBQ’d shish-ka-bobs and we had our own personal cakes for my birthday. In the evening, we went to the Salt Lake Bees baseball game and watched the fireworks at Spring Mobile Ballpark. Fun!

Summer Hikes
Scott and I made a vow that we would go on some hikes in the mountains this summer. We live right next to American Fork Canyon and haven’t really taken advantage of the natural wonders. So this summer it’s going to be different. So far, we’ve taken 3 hikes. They have been challenging, but as we are getting in better shape, we’re being more adventurous. Brian went with us on 2 of them.

Tuacahn 2008
We headed down to Tuacahn this year to see both shows and without Mark because he’s on his mission in Texas. This year we saw “Les Miserables” and “The Sound of Music”, both of which were good. “Les Mis” was wonderful, spectacular, and had great singing and acting. “Sound” was also very good and gave the lead actor a real change playing calm Captain von Trapp after emotional Jean Valjean-quite a repertory performance. We had the pre-show dinner both nights and watched the show on the plaza. This year we went on the backstage tour before the show and that was really fun, especially for Brian. I got a really cool shot of Brian on the stage without him knowing it and he looks pensive. Thinking about his future in musical theater??
During the day between shows, we went to the Rosenbruch Wildlife Museum which had really interesting dioramas and lots of dead animals. We did the audio tour and learned tons about the different habitats.

Tuacahn 2007
This year we went down to Tuacahn to see “My Fair Lady”. We did the pre-show dinner because that’s become our tradition and watched the pre-show on the plaza. They had constructed some pretty awesome sets for this production. They made a large iron bridge that spanned the stage and was used for several things. It was the columns for the Covent Garden scenes below, it was the vantage point to see the Ascot race, it held up the Higgins house set, and was just really cool. They had horses do the race on the road in back of the stage and that was fun. Great show.
