After a summer hiatus while my sewing buddy and I took turns going on vacations, we are back to the Barn Project. We finished two barns, one with a twist: a silo. The Quilt-Along from Lori Holt that we are working on had twelve barns, then seven barns with silos plus a tractor. Each barn has a different 6″ quilt block on the side so there are many blocks to choose from. We approached this project by choosing our favorite twelve quilt blocks and doing roughly one a month. We planned to build all barns at first but then decided we like the barns with silos so much that we will do nine barns and three silos.
This is the Sunny Sunflower block. We both used the same scraps for our sunflowers but did our own thing for the barns. Team ShaRee went wild with a blue roof and we both love how cute it came out.
Team Sue was a little worried about that wild flower print for the barn but it turns out that it really worked. We also created our very first barn with a silo. How exciting! The quilt block is Cool Threads and the thread on our spools have our own characteristic look: brights for Team Sue and traditional colors for Team ShaRee. These barns also show a departure from our first design choice to have all our barns in shades of red. Team ShaRee goes autumn with a green barn and orange silo and roof that looks absolutely darling with those spools.
Team Sue goes blue because I simply adore that silo scrap and it will blend nicely with the red barns but allow a big departure with the blue barn.
Watch for more barns coming soon!
