With the last-minute flurry of reading challenge finds at year-end, I carefully looked through and decided to join a few more. Because……why not? This makes my total challenges 14, plus the two from Riedel Fascination that end in Feb 2016. That’s the most I’ve ever joined, so here’s to a great reading year. My other 2016 sign-up posts are here, here, and here.
A-Z Mystery Author Challenge
Red Headed Book Child is hosting this challenge. Read any author within the mystery genre; thriller, noir, suspense, etc. Use last names as the letter (i.e. S= John Sandford) and see if you can complete the whole alphabet!!!
I read several mystery series, so will probably not be able to tackle the whole alphabet this year. My goal: 13 authors
2016 World Reading Challenge
Hosted by Dorothee at life is a journey, the idea of this reading challenge is to explore the world by books from different continents and countries. To join the challenge, select and read seven books, one book from each continent:
– Africa
– Asia
– Australia/Ozeania
– Europe
– North America
– South America
– Antarctica (or a book with a journey from one continent to another)
2016 Nonfiction Reading Challenge
The Challenge: Read any non-fiction book(s), adult or young adult.
Dilettante–Read 1-5 non-fiction books
Explorer–Read 6-10
Seeker–Read 11-15
Master–Read 16-20
I am choosing the Explorer level: 6-10 books.
2016 Prequel & Sequel Challenge
There are lots of rules to this challenge (see below). I did it last year and signed up for Amateur but more than doubled the Veteran level, so I’m going for the Veteran level and hoping that’s not too ambitious. I’m going to knock off TBR series this year!
In order to get 10 points for a completed series, there must be at least 3 full-length books in the series. You can still get sequel points for a duology, you just can’t get the 10 bonus points for finishing it.
For each prequel and sequel read this year, points will be awarded as follows:
1 point for each prequel or sequel novella read and reviewed
2 points for each full-length sequel read and reviewed
10 points for completing and reviewing a full series (doesn’t require novellas)*†
You do not get points for the first book in a series.
*The 10 bonus points is for finishing a full series. That means that all books must be published. If you are completely caught up on a series, and the next book is not releasing until 2017, that does not count toward the 10 bonus points.
†If you started the series before 2016, you can still get the bonus points for finishing it if you reviewed the other books in the series at some point. For example: You read The Hunger Games in 2015, but read Catching Fire and Mockingjay in 2016 – you would get 2 points for both sequels and 10 bonus points for finishing the series (14 points total). You don’t have to start the series in 2016 to get the bonus points.
10-25 points: Newbie
25-50 points: Amateur
51-75 points: Advanced
76-100 points: Professional
101+ points: Veteran
